Creating Sacred Space Through Tattoo: My Intuitive Journey

Jun 05, 2025

If you’re here, it probably means you’ve felt it—that pull toward something more meaningful in the tattoo world. Maybe you’ve wondered if there’s a deeper way to connect through this art form. That’s exactly the kind of curiosity that shaped my entire path into becoming an artists.

Recently, I had the chance to share part of my story on my new podcast, Her Ink Empire. I want to walk you through some of what came up—straight from the heart, and straight from experience.

From Face Paint to First Sparks

It all started when I was a kid—seven years old, to be exact. My mom handed me a little face painting kit, and I was obsessed. I started painting myself, then my friends, and before I knew it, I was doing neighborhood birthday parties making $4 an hour.

I’ve always had this creative drive—and even as a kid, I had this entrepreneurial mindset. Like, "Oh wow, I can make things, and people will pay me for it?" That energy never left me.

My mom and grandmothers were both creatives—painters. So art was always around. But spirituality? Not so much. I actually grew up in a pretty atheist household. No religion, no spiritual framework. Still, I had these early experiences that I now realize were spiritual—visions, sensations, things I didn’t have words for at the time.

The Vision That Set It All in Motion

One of the most powerful experiences I’ve had came during meditation. I was lying on my back, and suddenly, I saw Jesus’s face. And my first thought was, What is that guy doing here? I had no background in Christianity, no connection to that imagery. But there he was, and we were trying to line up our eyes—like he wanted me to see what he saw.

Then, right after that, came another vision. This one felt deeply personal: I saw myself in the future, sitting in a beautiful studio with wood floors and floor-to-ceiling windows. There was a woman in front of me, her back facing me, and I was tattooing her. The room was glowing with sunset light, and the moment felt incredibly sacred. I wasn’t just tattooing—I was part of her transformation. After finishing, I rubbed herbs into her back. It felt ancient, ceremonial.

That vision became my mission. I didn’t know how to get there, but I trusted it. I let it lead me.

Letting Spirit Lead

After that, I kept meditating, praying  and paying attention to what came through. I trusted the feelings. I didn’t grow up with a spiritual language, but I knew something real was guiding me. Over the years, I had more visions—of a tattoo studio that was inclusive, warm, and welcoming. A place that wasn’t dominated by patriarchy or ego.

It took time, but I built that studio about seven to ten years later. It looked different from anything I’d ever seen in the tattoo world. The energy was soft. The vibe was open. It felt like it belonged to everyone who walked in, not just to me.

I was in my early 20s when I had that vision. I’m 37 now. And while I haven’t tattooed in that exact sunlit space from the vision, I know I’m getting closer to that level of sacredness in the work I do.

How My Tattoo Process Has Evolved

The way I tattoo today is totally guided by the visions I’ve received through prayer and meditation.

In the beginning, I used to include a lot of ritual. My process was long, layered, and elaborate. There was a reason for that—it was part of my learning. It was part of me remembering how sacred this work could be.

Now, it’s more refined. More efficient. I can sit with someone, tune in quickly, and just know. I feel into what’s coming through for them, and I let that guide the drawing. I don’t overthink it. It doesn’t need to be complicated anymore. I trust the process, and I trust the connection.

Each person brings their own energy into the space. I just listen.

This Work Is Sacred

To me, tattooing isn’t just about what goes on the skin. It’s about what happens beneath it.

It’s about connection—between artist and client, between spirit and form. It’s about transformation, energy, healing, and presence. I’ve been led here through trust, intuition, and a willingness to keep listening to what I don’t always understand.

And even though my process has shifted, that sense of sacredness hasn’t gone anywhere. If anything, it’s gotten clearer.
